E-Reader Poll

Last week Barnes & Noble announced their Nook e-reader to the world and, we must say, we were highly impressed and somewhat tempted to purchase one. It seems that there is finally an emerging market for e-readers, now that Amazon, Sony, and Barnes & Noble all have their own hardware. And there are still rumors that Apple may have something up their sleeve in the new year. While this may not be good news for the paper book industry, it sure is good news for trees all around the world.

So we’d like to know what your thoughts are on e-readers. Do you own one? Are they the greatest invention since sliced bread? Or do you prefer a good ‘ole paper book? Let us know by filling out our E-Reader Poll below:

I won't be getting an ereader anytime soon. I want to be able to pass my books along to others whom I want to invest in.

Passing books to friends is the only think I don't like about ebooks. But there are some options. Thomas Nelson has started putting in a copy of the audio and ebook with some of their hardbacks. I have purchased the hard back in that case with the intention of passing it on once I read the ebook.

So I love the ereader concept. Having a bookshelf in my pocket seems worthwhile. Just like having a jukebox in my pocket has been valuable.

There are lots of "filler" times – between classes, waiting for dinner etc – in which whipping out an ereader and picking up exactly where I left off sounds great. I'd totally pay $10 for an old book. Anyway, I'm excited about ereaders.

If you are willing to get older tech, some Targets seems to be selling old Sony 505s (about 3 years old, but same basic screen as Kindle, no wireless) for $70 on clearance. It isn't on the website and not all stores seem to have dropped the price, but a number of people are reporting they have picked them up.

that would be one of the downfalls of this kind of technology. though I can see it being a benefit to students in school. less books to carry.
