The Cover We Did Use

Thanks to everyone who participated in the discussion following my “The Cover We Didn’t Use” post, which featured an iconic image of Christ plus some headphones to convey an idea from Tim Stevens’ “Pop Goes the Church” cover story. Because the brand new May/June issue is mailing out today, I thought it would be fun to share the cover we did use. Sadly, it will take 7-10 days for the issue to reach most of you, but I think it’s worth the wait. Enjoy:

Special thanks to the talented Barton Damer, who designed our second amazing May/June 2008 cover. Our full-time COLLIDE designer, Ryan Jarrell, was busy designing the rest of the magazine when we decided to nix his Headphone Jesus cover. He was gracious enough not to yell at us, and Barton was gracious enough to bail us out with a great piece of artwork.

Thoughts?

I love the artwork: great graphic design. I miss the intentionally thought-provoking element of the original cover. One thought though, this cover kind of expresses the alternate meaning of the word pop - as in explosion. Hmm. Either way you guys are amazingly creative and i love seeing what comes next!

Great job! Overwhelming, but cool (nice balance). love the metallic shades of the 80s!
