Back to School
Well, those blinking yellow lights are back, which means school is back in session for some of our readers (or it’s about to be), but for the rest of us, that ship has sailed. However, one thing my father has always told me is to never stop learning.
As Proverbs 18:15 says, “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.”
So, as our culture continues to grow and change, this is a challenge we all must take on if we want to stay on top of culture and even lead the way. I’ve personally taken this challenge to heart and am constantly trying to learn new things and skills.
- For one, I’m always reading a book or two. Just last night I purchased Steven King’s On Writing so that I can master the art of writing, though I doubt I’ll ever be a Steven King.
- I’m also trying to learn new Photoshop and Illustrator skills by doing some online tutorials from PSDTUTS and VectorTUTS, though I doubt I’ll ever be a Barton Damer.
- As a musician, I’m always finding new artists for inspiration and working on my playing skills (and even picking up new instruments along the way).
Though these are just a few things I am trying to learn right now, I know there will be more as time goes on and as my life and culture continue to change.
Are you continuing to learn and how are you do so? What are you working on, learning, practicing, creating?
May those little, blinking yellow school zone lights constantly remind you to never stop learning, and to slow down so that you don’t kill children.

Enjoy ‘On Writing.’ One of the best books I’ve ever read, fiction or non. As for my continuing ed…I’m a youth pastor with very very basic photoshop/graphic design skills. I’m in the beginning stages of trying to learn more about the power of design and how to create. Have any suggestions for a beginner?
