Understanding The Times

A couple months ago, my pastor shared a somewhat obscure Scripture verse and it’s still bouncing around in my head:

“… Men of Issachar, who understood the times and knew what Israel should do …” — 1 Chronicles 12:32 (NIV)

In the passage, the men of Issachar are part of a list of warriors from different areas, each of which is described by a distinctive characteristic. Evidently, the men of Issachar stood out for their simultaneous insight into the world around them and their wisdom concerning Israel’s best response.

As church leaders, may we be men and women who understand the times and know what the Church should do.
